DAY 4: WHEN CHANGE IS UPON YOU

I’m very blessed to have a Yoga Room in our home – space that’s dedicated to my practice, and sacred.  There’s an altar in this room filled with items that are special to me, like candles, affirmations, gifts from friends.  One of the items that jumped out at me this morning was a healing card that read “Embrace the changes in your life.  Release what you no longer need, and welcome the seeds of new experience.”

I’ve been saying, to myself and my friends, September is going to be a transformational month for me.  And it’s already happening.  I feel it in my practice, I feel it in my teaching, I feel it in my closest relationships.  And it’s scary sometimes.  But do you embrace change, grow and move forward, or let fear hold you back?  In Yoga we call this process Svadhyaya, self-study or self-exploration.

I guess my point is that we ALL go through this, in every aspect of our lives.  We’re moving, we’re growing, we’re changing, we’re moving on.  This applies to our Yoga practice, too.  And when you face fear and embrace change on your mat,  somehow change in other areas seems easier to embrace.  So go to your mat, and do some exploring.  Try something new, like an arm balance (Crow Pose) or do a Headstand against the wall, or move into a great big heart-opening backbend!  “Embrace the changes in your life.  Release what you no longer need, and welcome the seeds of new experience.”

  1. Beth…this post is so amazing (read further for why). I was just telling Craig about my morning practice…as I was relating what I had done, he kept interrupting and saying ‘You have to read Beth’s post today, hurry, read it now’..so, finally after I finished telling him how I attempted crow pose (you know this is something I want to tackle and accomplish well) and succeeded for 5 breath cycles at a strong crow pose, and attempted my first headstand on my own, I read your post. Must be the conscious energy influencing my practice. 🙂
